Brooks, of Hamptonburgh, were descendants of the last-named gentleman. This place is now acquiring the name of Lincolndale. John I. Brooks is mentioned in SSS letters of 1831. He was part of an Anti-Masonic assembly in Orange County. His father was Jonathan Brooks (in Ancestry) and his mother was Hetty Lewis (see Ancestry). He married Eliza Denniston and then Hannah Denniston, with whom he had two children, Fletcher and Charles.
