Biography
Born in Auburn, NY. Van Anden attended Union College in 1835, graduated in 1839. Received Doctor of Medicine in 1850 from Buffalo. Succeeded Edward R. Hall as superintendent of the Asylum for Insane Convicts at Auburn Prison. Retired in 1870. Died in 1873 due to hemorrhage. Mentioned in 18630606FMS_WHS1.
