According to the Auburn Theological Seminary records for the year 1858, Severance did not successfully graduate. But there follows a summary of his life.
*JOHN FRANKLIN SEVERANCE, born in Shelburne, Mass., Mar. 12, 1817. Lived in
Amherst in1848. Teacher in Somerville, N. J. from 1848-50, and in Broomfield from 1850-2. Was in Auburn from
Sept. 1855-Jan. In 1856, married Hannah M. Lindsley of S. Orange. Ord., by Presb., Wilson, N. V., Oct., 1857. Lived in Franklin from 1861-3, Hebron from 1863-4, Milford, Del. from 1866-7; La Porte 
City, la., 1868-9; Sherman, N. Y., 1870; Floyd, la., 1871 ; Elmwood, Del.; 
Geneva; Marengo. In his later years Severance resided in Chicago.
