Biography

Margaret McJannett was the daughter of David McJannett, an emigrant from Scotland, and Janet (Dunlop) McJannett of Canandaigua, New York. She became a nurse for Francis Chesebro Onderdonk in the late 1850s and accompanied the family in 1859 to the Bahamas where she kept a diary of her experiences there. According to the 1880 Federal Census, she remained unmarried and lived in her family home until her death in 1917.
