Biography

Born in Chatham, New York in 1795. He was a Democrat who supported Whigs and a member of New York State Assembly from 1821-1825, the New York State Senate from 1828-1830. He then became a U.S. Senator from New York from 1833-1834. He was later Governor of Wisconsin Territory from 1844-1845. Died in 1864 in Battle Creek, Michigan.
