Biography

Edwin Morgan was a former governor of the state of New York. He also served in the United States Senate from 1863-1869 and as the chairman of the Republican National Committee. During the Civil War he was a Union general. William Seward, Jr. mentions Morgan in his February 16, 1865 letter to William Henry Seward, which relates Seward Jr.'s appointment to be considered for General Officer.
