Biography

Born in New Hampshire in 1782, Daniel Webster became a U.S. statesman. In the years leading up to the Civil War he was involved in measures to keep the union together such as the Compromise of 1850. He is also sometimes referred to as the "Great Orator" for his oratory skills in the U.S. Senate. Under Presidents William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, and Millard Fillmore he serves as the Secretary of State.
