Andrew Johnson was a congressman from Tenessee and a supporter of the Union, even though he was from a state that had strong secession leanings. After the assassination of President Lincoln, Andrew Johnson became President. For the people who plotted to assassinate President Lincoln and other officials, President Andrew Johnson refused to hear any pleas of clemency.
