Biography
Julia Hastings Sumner was the sister of Charles Sumner. She married John Hastings on July 19, 1854. She lived in San Francisco with her husband. She was the last survivor of the 9 children of Charles P. Sumner, and the only one to outlive Sumner. She kept in contact with Sumner via letters, some of which have been published in his Memoir. She was an invalid for many years. She visited Charles in the Atlantic States, including Washington throughout the 1850s and 1860s.
