Biography

Lord John Russell served as twice as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, from 1846-42 and 1865-66. He spearheaded the Great Reform Act of 1832, and promoted parliamentary reform. "As Home Secretary, he reduced the number of criminal offences punishable by death, so that only murder and high treason could be punished by execution." He accepted an Earldom in 1861.
