Pierre Philippe Jean Marie d'Orleans was a naval officer, educated at the College of Edinburgh. In 1861 he went to the U.S. Naval Academy at Newport, Rhode Island, graduating in 1863. He served as ensign for 14 months, but was on leave of absence during the entire time, resigning is commission in 1864 and serving in the Brazilian Navy for two years and traveling around the world. He served in the French navy until the decree against the formerly sovereign families was passed and he was deprived of his commission. He died in Paris in 1919 at 74 and unmarried.
