Biography

John Rodgers commanded ships off Florida in the Seminole War, led the North Pacific Exploring and Surveying and Arctic Ocean Surveying Expeditions. In the Civil War he attacked Charleston and captured the Confederate ship "Atlanta". After the Civil War he commanded the Pacific Squadron, the Boston Navy Yard, the Asiatic Squadron, the Mare Island Navy Yard, and the Naval Observatory.

He married Anna Elizabeth Hodge Rodgers, with whom he had 3 children.
