Arius
Birth: unknown
Death: unknown
Alternate First Name: Aryus
Biography
Arius was a Christian presbyter who argued for Arianism which posited that because Jesus Christ was born of God, then Jesus must have not existed prior to when God "begot" his son. This lead to a debate over the supremacy of the Godhead within the church. From wikipedia: "His teachings about the nature of the Godhead, which emphasized the Father's divinity over the Son,[2] and his opposition to what would become the dominant Christology, Homoousian Christology, made him a primary topic of the First Council of Nicea, convened by Roman Emperor Constantine in AD 325."
