Biography
Albert Brisbane was one of two sons of James and Mary Brisbane. At 18 years of age he went to France to study philosophy, then moved to Berlin, studying under G.W. F. Hegel. He returned to Paris and then studied under Charles Fourier. He liked Fourier's ideas on the organization of labor, and lectured throughout the 1830's and 1840's on Fourier's system of labor. He also wrote and published books and articles on the organization of labor.

Biography: Albert Brisbane married Adele le Brun, who was alleged to be a Countess, in 1833. Albert brought Adele to Batavia from Europe, and they had two children together. After five years, however, Adele moved back to Europe. Whether Adele and Albert were actually married has been questioned.
