Thomas Read Walker was born in Utica, NY. He married Sara Ann Walker (nee Breese), with whom he had four daughters, Louisa Johnson Walker (1831-34), Annie Breese Walker Dexter (1833-1867), Susan Louisa Walker Smith (1834-1918), and Mary Seymour Walker Montgomery (1845-1895). He died while he was in Germany visiting his daughter and her family.

Biography: 
Thomas Read Walker studied law, and was a partner in various law firms, including Walter and Conkling. He was interested in politics, and in 1840 became the city attorney of Utica, in 1845 an alderman in Utica, and from 1849-50 the Mayor of Utica. He was also a businessman, serving as President of the first telegraph company in the area, as President of the Gas Company, and as President of the Cemetery Association.
