Thomas Francis Marshall studied law and was admitted to the bar in Kentucky. He was a member of the State house of representatives from 1832-36, 1838-39, and 1854. He served in the 27th Congress. He served in the Mexican War as captain of Volunteers, then practiced law until his death.
