Biography

Quoted from Litchfield Ledger - Litchfield Historical Society - John Lorimer Graham was born in London, England on March 20, 1797. His father was a prominent attorney who worked in CT, VT, and NY. Graham attended the Litchfield Law School in 1812 and was admitted to the New York State bar in 1821. He served as the Postmaster of New York City from 1840 to 1844, and also worked briefly for the Treasury Department in 1861. Graham also acted as a Regent for New York University in 1834. He died in Flushing, NY on July 22, 1876.
