Biography
De Witt Clough lived in Auburn, NY. He is listed on the 1850, 1855, and 1880 Auburn, NY censuses as working as a machinist. In 1850 he is listed as working in the same house as a blacksmith, George Pert. Therefore it is plausible that he is the gentleman who made the tin cover for the furnace at the Seward's, which FMS mentions in letter 18461127FMS_WHS1. Based on the 1860 census Clough's inferred spouse is Roby/Robie Clough, and his children are Mary Clough, Herbert Clough, and Fred Clough,
