    Death: 8-7-1899

Biography

Anna was born in Geneva, NY on April 7, 1810. Her parents Robert and Jane Scott were among some of the earliest settlers in Geneva and raised Anna there for the first 20 years of her life. In 1830, Anna married Mr. Edward R. Vredenburgh. Less than one year later, Anna gave birth to their only child who would be named Edward after his father. Edward H. Vredenburgh would soon have a difficult childhood having to cope with the death of his father at age 7. Edward R. Vredenburgh died in 1838 leaving Anna and their son Edward behind.
Despite the death of her husband after only 8 years of marriage, Anna and her son Edward continued on with their lives, and four years later in 1842, Anna remarried to Mr. Nicholas Ayrault. In the next 6 years Anna had two children with Nicholas. Their first son Allen was born in 1843. Five years later in 1848 their second son William was born. Allen and William had a very difficult childhood because their father Nicholas died just two years after William was born. The loss of Nicholas was extremely difficult for Anna because it now left her alone to care for her three children, William being only two years old at the time. Anna spent the next 12 years raising her two younger children. Edward was well into his twenties and beginning to find work at various banks in the city of
1
Rochester. Once Allen and William were both teenagers, Anna moved with her children to 122 South Fitzhugh St. in 1862. This home would become Anna’s residence for the rest of her life (D&C).
The next several years would be the most difficult of her entire life. In November of 1865, her son Allen became very ill and soon died from consumption (Tuberculosis). He was only 17 years old at the time. If this was not hard enough for Anna to deal with, 6 years later in 1871, William died of the same disease. Anna had now experienced the deaths of two husbands as well as two children, and she was left with her son Edward
from her first marriage. Despite the turmoil in their lives, Edward’s financial success managed to carry them through the difficult times. The last twenty years of Anna’s life were nothing short of lonely. By this time, Edward was living in his own home on Plymouth Ave, and Anna was living by herself in the house on Fitzhugh st.
Anna lived for 28 years at 122 Fitzhugh St. and after 89 long years passed away from paralysis of the pharyngeal muscles on August 7th, 1899
