Pierre Soule was born near Bordeaux, France in 1801. He studied and practiced law and journalism in France. He was imprisoned for publishing revolutionary articles in 1825, but he escaped to England, went to Haiti in 1824, and then to the United States. He settled in New Orleans and became a lawyer and statesman. He served in the Senate in 1847 and from 1849 to 1853. During the American Civil War when New Orleans was captured he was imprisoned, he later escaped to the Bahamas, and then moved to Cuba, before returning to New Orleans before his death. He married Henrietta (nee Mercier) with whom he had atleast one child, Nelvil Soule.
