Biography

Ann Stephens was an American writer and editor who contributed stories, poems, and articles for many different periodicals. In 1831 she married fellow writer Edward Stephens and they settled in Portland, Maine where she founded the Portland Magazine. In addition, she edited The Ladies Companion, wrote for Graham's Magazine, founded Ladies' World, founded the magazine Mrs. Stephens' Illustrated New Monthly, and also edited her husband's weekly paper Brother Jonathan.
