Jane Pierce is mentioned in Frances Adeline Miller Seward's letter of February 14, 1857 to her son Augustus Henry Seward. According to Frances, Mrs. Pierce accepted incumbent President Buchanan's offer to stay at the White House until better weather for traveling. She was married to President Franklin Pierce, and they are buried together with their two children, both of whom died young.
