Daughter of Thaddeus Welles (1806-1876) and Emily Maria Kellogg Welles, niece of Secretary of the Navy Gideon Welles, married in 1865 to William Henry Hoyt. Fanny Seward may refer to her when recollecting a social call she and Anna Seward made to the Welles home in Washington in her 1862-1863 diary.
