Biography

Joseph R. Hawley was a U.S. politician. After the Civil War, Hawley served as the 42nd governor of Connecticut. Hawley was also a journalist and editor of the newspaper, the Hartford Courant. The editor of the Hartford Courant is mentioned in a letter from Lazette Worden to Augustus Seward on Dec. 19, 1871, either referring to Hawley, or his co-editor Charles Dudley Warner.
