Son of David and Ann Sample Shannon, born at Stone Tavern in Northumberland, PA. Married Eliza Hammond in 1832. Maintained tavern until 1836. Frances Seward recounts staying at the tavern in her 1835 diary of trip through Pennsylvania and Virginia. Refers to the tavern as "Shannon's". Shannon later moved to Turbotville, PA.
