Biography

Phrenologist and publisher. Born in Cohocton, NY. Practiced phrenology with his brother Lorenzo Niles Fowler in Washington, D.C. and opened phrenological museum in Philadelphia, PA. In 1840s, the Fowler brothers joined with Samuel Roberts Wells in a phrenological firm in New York City. Later in life, he became interested in architecture and developed the octagonal house. Frances "Fanny" Seward references the New York firm of Fowler and Wells in her 1860 pocket diary.
