Biography

Rev. Dr. Sullivan Hardy Weston was a doctor, priest, and the chaplain for New York's Seventh Regiment, based out of New York City. Weston was born in Bristol, Maine, and was educated at Wesleyan University. He was affiliated with Trinity Parish. Weston first performed a service for the Seventh Regiment in Richmond, VA in 1858, and was commissioned as their chaplain in December 1860. He died in Maine, suggesting he moved back to the state at some point in the 1870s.



Weston was likely part of a committee the Seventh Regiment sent to Washington DC in 1858. This committee was looking to secure additional arms for the regiment and was successful in this task thanks to William Henry Seward's assistance. According to a letter published in The Washington Union in October 1858, this committee consisted of Lieutenant Colonel Marshall Lefferts, Captain Henry C. Shumway, Major Benjamin M. Nevers, Captain James Monroe, and Reverend Doctor Sullivan H. Weston.
