Biography
Samuel Millard Bowman was a Colonel in the 84th Pennsylvania Infantry during the American Civil War. From February to September 1864, Bowman served as recruiting officer for the United States Colored Troops (USCT) based out of Baltimore, Maryland. From September until the end of 1864, he served as the Commandant for the Military District of Deleware. He was promoted to Brevet Brigadier General in 1865. Bowman is introduced in a letter written by Samuel Swezy Seward to his uncle, William H. Seward, dated April 22, 1863.
