Amanda (Towne) Pomeroy was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. She married George Throop Pomeroy of Auburn, New York, and the couple had one child, a daughter named Grace Towne Pomeroy. Amanda and George resided both in Auburn and in Chicago, Illinois. Amanda's sister, Mary Towne Burt, was a well-known temperance advocate in New York State. Both Amanda and Mary are referenced in Frances "Fanny" Seward's 1866 diary as being baptized in Auburn's Protestant Episcopalian Church.
