Biography
John M. Guion was born in New York City, New York and attended Columbia College from 1822-1826. He then studied at the New York Theological Seminary. Guion began his ministry in Palmyra, New York, and then transferred to St. Mark's Church (New York City) in 1830. He married Elizabeth Ives Wheaton in 1832 and served next in several parishes in Connecticut and one in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1855, Guion came to Seneca Falls, New York, where he served for the next twenty-one years as rector of Trinity Church. Frances "Fanny" Seward references attending one of his sermons in her 1866 diary, calling it "dull" and "quite free from original or new ideas."
