Biography

Augustus Hopkins Strong was born in Rochester, on August 3, 1836, a son of Alvah Strong, who was publisher of the Daily Democrat. He attended Yale graduating in 1857. He was a Baptist and Theologian, earning his Doctorate of Divinity in 1861. He preached in Haverhill, Massachusetts, and Cleveland before becoming President and Chair of the Rochester Theological Seminary in 1872. He published Systematic Theology in 1886. He was President of the Rochester Theological Seminary for 40 years, and died on November 29, 1921.
