Biography

George Jardine was born in England, on November 1, 1800. He was an apprentice in an organ shop until immigrating to New York City in 1837, with his wife, Hannah. He produced finger organs and then church and concert hall organs. The firm became the second largest organ-building house in the city behind his competitor, Henry Erban. In 1855, George’s son, Edward, joined the company and apprenticed under his father. Edward took control of the firm in 1871. George retired in 1880 and died on February 12, 1882. He is mentioned in Frances "Fanny" Adeline Seward's 1860 diary.
