Sarah Louisa (Shaw) Fuller was the daughter of New York printer Washington "Washy" Shaw and his wife Sarah Elizabeth (Loomis) Shaw. Sarah was born in Auburn, New York. The Shaw family appears to have moved to Albany, New York, before 1870 when they appear in that city for that year in the U.S. Federal Census. On October 3, 1877, Sarah married Albert Warner Fuller, an architect, with whom she had two children - Laurence Albert Fuller and Mabel Louise Fuller. Frances "Fanny" Seward references playing a game of "chance bag" with her and her sister Mary Miller Shaw in her 1858-1859 diary.
