Prentice Stoddard was the son of Vine and Sabra (Avery) Stoddard. He was the father of William Osborn Stoddard, who worked as a private secretary for Abraham Lincoln. Prentice worked as a bookseller, and William assisted in his shop while he was growing up. The family lived in Homer, NY, but Prentice died in Boston.
