New York 7 Feb 1825Dear Henry
I have now several letters from
you, unanswered – some of them containing strong
& full expressions of attachment & interest, such
as my poor heart had for a long time
been gratified with from you. They need
a special notice & shall when I have time
to breath receive it – others of business.
Did I not communicate the result of my
application to Colt? I think I did but
you do not respond & I begin to fear that
I omitted it. He says he has no ob-
jection to pay cash for costs, upon the
assurance that he will not again be
troubled about the business – but will
not submit to be drained of small sums
on the principal. Shall I assure him
or shall I sheep shin him –

about which I wrote you. Do not fail
to send me in due time. I forget what
I wrote & fear that I omitted to ask a compliment
for the merchants. It is a fact that the Athen
eum attempted to get on without an appeal
to the merchants – could not succeed – but upon
applying to them [ the ]
Alternate Text: they succeeded fully. Thus no
church – no benevolent society or enterprise
can get on without the aid of the merchants.
Do not fail to arrange for me

I shall soon give you some details from Florida
