New York May 11th 1825
My dear Pa
I received yours of the 2nd ultimo on
last saturday, which contains many useful
maxims, and I hope to lay to heart as much as
possible, I have defered writing till now
for the governor
school, and I thought that you would wish to
hear of his reception, here on Tuesday about
half after nine he entered and immediately
he entered the school pronounced the following
"salu"tation, to writ,
Salve Clinton gubernator
Salve DeWitt imperator
Hugus schola et fundator
Salve Salve gubernator
Then school then pronounce bowed and took seats
He was a little effected. He examined the
school and about ten retired, expressing his
[ higest ]

"scholars" gentleman, amongst them was the
"Rev" Hooper Cummins
I attended the anniversary of the Union
Sunday School Society, was much pleased.
The reason why I attended was that I have
been a teacher in it ever since I have been
here, I consider it a good cause.
Thus I have no more to say I must now close
I have been in the City sometimes seen much
and layed money for letters, I am now nea[ r ]

to make up some for me and send it down
