New York June 22nd 1825
My Dear Father
I have once more wake the deep sol-
itude of my pen, the business of the day being over
I cheerfully consecrate the remainder of it to the
most useful and pleasing of composition.
It is hardly of use to say that the school
still continues to flourish to honor, and to be
honored. On Tuesday the Lieutenant govorner
Tallmade
Birth: 1778-01-28 Death: 1853-09-29
, the
court of Errors, the Corporation of the City of New York together with other gentlemen
paid us a visit. And express their entire
conviction of the manner the school is conducted
of its great utility & c & c.
I send with this letter a pamphlet of the
Rules and Regulation of the school, in it is the
staated the vacation time, which is between the
15 of August, and 15 September I shall then I
think of coming, (but I hope not to return) and pay
you a visit. Though I know the time is yet
long and my help is wanted at home but as this
is the life last time I shall have of going to
school I wish to have (and nor more) ample
time to so qualify myself re ^s^ pecfully.
I wish to pay some attention to Surveying
and Mesuration. Aside others which are use ^ful^
the time before the vacation will be too short
Therefore I would beg to stay 3 months longer
after the vacation when I think I can return with
an Education which I shall be fully satisfied.
I have paid the Second quarter of my tuition
this day, Will Papa please to write soon and
let me know the passing events and oblige
Your affectionate Son
Geo W. Seward.
Mr. Samuel S. Seward
