Tuesday evening
My Dear Henry, I received your letter this morning from
Utica you was very kind to write so soon I did not
expect to hear from you until you arrived at Albany.
We all remain well except Grandma she has the rheumatism
very severely – nothing of consequence has occurred –
Augustus went out to ride with his Grandpa to day
he said he was going to see Pa – he commiserates me
very frequently upon being left all alone – says he is
Papa’s boy whenever he wishes to obtain any favour
from that quarter – Sunday evening John Mann spent
with us he appears quite as well satisfied with
himself as ever – spoke in very familiar terms of
the Russian embassador’s daughter and ethe Spanish
Embassador’s son – said he would not give a fig to
go to London unless he could be admitted into the
best society – which is nowise probable at present
Monday morning I went to see Lazette and in the
afternoon Clary and I called at Mr Gardneirs –
Dr Rudds – Porters – Weeds – and Muirs at the last – place
We met Sarah Hulbert and the Miss Harts – Mrs
Cummings intended lady I think not very pretty
and considerably affected – that evening a party
of ladies and gentlemen escorted them to Skaniateles –
I think you must have had a delightful ride to Utica

did that man succeed in accomplishing his jouney with
paying any thing – Did you meet Jennings at Albany?
I have not heard a word about Judge Glover yet, I presume
he has gone on to Albany – The girls are all making preparations
for the ball – our cards came yesterday 18 managers I do
not know half of the names – It continues very cold and
has been snowing for the last twelve hours constantly.
Do tell me Henry what you said about Mrs Jackson’s
shawl – I am afraid her name will be changed before she gets
it – Is it not necessary for a letter to accompany it and
what shall the letter contain? can it be sent by the mail?
You must not think me very careless for not giving more
attention to your directions, I could think of nothing but
your going just then – while on the subject of dress will
you get me when in New York a worked muslin (not lace
remember) collar – I expect another letter tomorrow – your own
