Editorial Note
My Dear Henry, This is the fith day since I have received a
line from you perhaps you do not write again until you return to
New York. I have not any idea how long you stay in Monmouth
nor the distance of that place from New York. I have been looking on the
map to try and ascertain where Cornelia
Birth: 1805 Death: 1839-01-04
resides but was unable to get any satisfactory information. I find a town of Bergen in the
County of the same name but am sure that cannot be the place it
is so near the city — I must defer writing until I hear from you again —
The four weeks have passed still no promise of a return home I am fearful
you will find the travelling very bad fortunately you will find no ice
