My dear Brother,
I have been in bed all day with sick
head-ache still I cannot let the mail go without
saying I received yours of the 17^th Ult– last evening
containing a kind of accusation, insinuation or
something of that sort. now my dear Brother I dont
believe anything has alienated your affections from
me, or could easily — neither do I believe you think
anything has estranged mine from you —
I have three little children who occupy most of
my time. I do not write much to any one, because
I have so long been prevented by the care of my
family therefore I hope you will take back that
unkind suspicion. I never thought more of you or your
success in the world than I have for the last 6 weeks
not that I am particularly anxious that you shall
be the Gov — but I have always loved you too well not
to fear a defeat — yet I have hoped all things from
your popularity and the number & earnestness of your
friends — I am proud that the malice of your
political enemies cannot bring any more serious charges
against you than the color of your hair the length
of your nose & your love of sweet things all which tho’
true cannot bear very heavy on your conscience
I hope you will write soon and tell me Frances has got
well, remember me kindly to her and the family
