My dear Brother
I am sorry to say that my
business calls me, imperiously from
the city this morning: I know not
that I could do you much good
if it were otherwise; but it would at
least be gratifying to be on the
ground and try.
Our friends are full of
courage. The use made of the little
Constitution produces great effect. In

she passed up to Albany, her broad
sides, inspired the whigs with an
active enthusiasm. The Tories, in
sullenness, rely upon tricks & fraud
to accomplish what they too evident-

shout Huzza with the desperation of
threatened defeat. The subdued
tone of Jackson

met with is one of the pleasing
indications of success. I repeat
it, the little Constitution is doing
wonders for us: - she appeals to
the senses. This is visible politicks,
a substance worth contending for
& great is the enthusiasm excited
in her defence.
But I must hie away &
vote. My young man Mr Cherry
will inform you day by day of
the state of affairs, (possibly others
