My Dear Henry
Washington
Birth: 1808-08-26 Death: 1888-12-07
cutting at the P.O. on his return
fromMeeting has this moment handed me yours of the 28th Ult.
The first and absorbing enquiry was how is our dear Francis
Birth: 1805-09-24 Death: 1865-06-21
That she was convalescent and even able to ride out once
was matter of unspeakable Joy to us. Your sincere
affection and regard my dear Child I do not for
an instant doubt at the same time permit
A father to urge you to be unremitting in
your kind attentions and assiduity for
her restoration to health. Remember us
most kindly to her tell her we sympathize
with her in her past affliction and earnestly
wish for her speedy recovery-
It is not to be disguised that it is
highly gratifying and a source of abiding
comfort to a parent to have a son at your
age who has not only more than realised
the expectation of his parents but has so
far received the confidence of the people as to
be actually called to fill the first Office in the
gift of this great state by an unquestionable
majority of the uncollered. Electors of the
State of New York—And that when by duplicity
and corruption adversity came your friends
were not disposed to desert you. May you
long live and your course be such as to be
more and more deserving of the good wish-
es of the real interest of the True Whig
Democracy of our misguided country.
On the subject of the present calm
and the movements at the south I have
only to say that for myself I am not for
joining in the support of any Whites
or Blacks that are Jackson

men at thepresent time but making the “Constitution
and Laws” our motto continues one man
in support of them. This is the cause of the
people and it will prevail.

has
given me no information as yetrelative to the Road. If not desided have
you not a friend in Albany that you could
get to place this case in its true light before
the proper authority. I shall never cease
to lament that you was not at the argument.
My health is still declining I ventured
out on friday to Newburgh came home
yesterday and last night thought I
could not live. Remember me affectionate-
