Bargain Town April 12^th
My dear Brother,
We have heard nothing from you for a long
time. I am consoling myself with the assurance that Frances
is better, and the time is taken up in preparations for your
intended journey – Uncle Polydore and I hope to be able to
leave here (he for home and I for New York) on tomorrow week
P___ talks of returning – we have talked the matter over (Mahlon
& I) & have come to the conclusion that it will not be best for
him to do so, for reasons which I can better explain when we
meet. I wish you to advise him not to return, he has made
up his mind on this subject and may feel disappointed
therefore we think it most prudent to let him get home
before he meets with any difficulty – He has kept clear of
any trouble while here and will leave I hope with a good
character, but he is becoming familiar with people who are not calculated to help his morals – when can you meet
me in New York? I shall stay there probably two weeks –
write to me there. From Locke we learn that Father is anxious
for P___ to come back – if this is so perhaps you can assist him
P___ by writing to Father on the subject – would it not be best
for Father to take him home, he is anxious to do better & needs
sympathy & kind treatment –
our children have all been sick, & I am just recovering from an
Attack of Quinsey
