your Letter from Woodstock Virginia
of 15^th June was received yesterday, from yo
your account of Francis health we think
it has improved a little, but regret
that it is not so little; We are all
well, Augustus continues steady at School
& is doing we well; Sanford left here
I believe abou before you did, he got
married in Connecticut & does not
return but has settled in N. york
in business with the Lawyer he ^was^ with the
Winter before last; Beardsley gets along
as usual with business, he expects Sanford
here soon to stay 8 or 10 days, then to return
to N. york; The Auburn & Owaso Canal
is growing into consequence, a new Bord
of T Trustees ^Directors^ was Elected according to Law
on the first Monday of June instant
to wit H. Polhemus E. Miller A Underwood
N. D. Carhart W H Seward J M Sherwood
N. Beardsley George H. Wood & Henry
Yates of N. Y; we have purchased the
Paine Property of Yates & McIntire at
$22,000 & they take in part payment
$10,000 of the Stock of the A & O. Canal
Comp^y in at its par value; Carhart
& Polhemus convey their Mills and
Lands attached therto to the Company
at for $18.500, we have also puchased
besides the Cumpston property all the
property on the Hill for the use of
the Company except W. P. Smith's and
the Lyman Hinman Property.
The new Diretors has Elected John M
Sherwood President, N. Beardsley Treasurer
& George H Wood Secretary

We have had about 10 or 12 days ago a
very severe Hai Hail storm, it destroyed a
great deal of Garden Vegetables particularly
early cucumbers (ours is almost all cut off)
it broke a great deal of glass on the
West side of the buildings, the Whig
Liberty Pole was br prostrated in the
md midst of the storm, it broke off
about 25 feet from the ground without
doing any injury in the fall, it fell
on the side walk in front of I. S. Miller
hard ware Store.
T. Weed in the evening Journal is un-
willing at this time to help the Jackson
Van Buren Party by ^an^ organized & clamourous
opposition &c ^to that Party;^ but a number of the
Whig papers disapprove of his course and
others the N. York American
who is willing for principal sake (as
he says) to keep up an organized
minority to oppose an unprincipeled
Majority, this shows perhaps some valor
by ^but but^ no disention.
My best love to Frances & Frederick, &
tell him that he shall have the Toys he
wished me to get (I have forgot what) as
soon as he gets home
