Goshen June 8th 1838
Dear Henry
On my return from a visit to Kingston
Ulster County, I received your letter of the 1st inst in which
you say some friend of yours from Or Coy has informed
you that the jealousy growing out of the delay in Locating the
N Y & Eri Rail road in this quarter is opperating prejudicial to you
Let me tell you, your, Friend (if he is truly so) is labouring under
a delusion and knows but little of what is going on.
He has probably been opperated upon by Genrl W.
in that interest which will amount to a mear nothing. I apprised
of that opposition when you were in Goshen. I have understood that
the Genrl has said the Democrat was coming out against all
land speculations &c Thereby meaning you were to be denounced
You may rest assured that is all a farce. He has no
controll over the Press. The Proprietors of that Paper are your
particular friends. At our Common Plea Court I made it
my especial business to converse with all the leading men
from different parts of the County, and find matters & things
much better than I had anticipated. The prominent men
in Newburgh and the other river Towns, as far as I am capable
of judging from conversing with them are in favour of your nom-
ination. My Advice is pay no attention to what may be urged upon
you whereby you might in any way commit yourself as to any
particular point of location in this County.
We will send Seward Delegates in Septr. Next week
you will see a call in our paper for the young mens con-
vention, and they will all be Seward men.

Next fall you may rely on a plump Party vote in old Orange
notwithstanding you are a Speculator in Western Lands
When will you be in New York. I have some
business there & would be pleased to see you
If you have any more letters from Orange
please let me hear the contents.
Your Father
with Genel Wickham I understand and has become very
much alarmed I have not had an opportunity to see
him since.
All well yours Truly
