Dear Henry
We have taken about a thou-
sand dollars in the two last days of June
from a multitude of persons, for a little in-
terest each, great cry & little wool, a throng
of people, with trifling sums: but yet shivering
well, in that it is an earnest of payments an-
other day.

Whig Young Men's Convention is well over, Hincley

to Utica. Good feeling prevails [ unversally ]

Hincley is charged with the duty of proclaiming
that Chautauqua will go, whatever others may say
in a solid columns for any such Whig as shall be
fairly nominated. All will be well.

& I took this occasion to tell him that I supposed
he would naturally wish to go home to see his
parents, (& he had leave at any time agreeable to
himself) he & that he had better resign & tell his
friends that he did not intend to return ‑ we
did not want him ‑ we wanted a surveyer,
, & this I did because of his [ unversal ]
