Auburn, Saturday.
Dear J,
You will have recieved Mr Van Hall
tioned by Mr Ogden
I have written to Mr Duer
may go to New York before I return to Chautauqua.
There is nothing new politically, as we approach
the Sitting of the Convention a thousand rumors gather about a
few days will dispel. I discern no want of confidence among
them upon whose information I rely for my own government, but
my rule is to anticipate an unfavorable result. You will do
well to prepare yourself for the same. We shall soon know[ . ]
Reason:
It is well to understand the truth is that it is quite
uncertain. I will advise you of any change if it occurs.
Uncle John
our father in very feeble health. He will see you next
week[ . ]
Reason:
Affectionately
Henry.
We bury R. L Smith
going to the funeral.
