Dear H.
Nomination here you know is tanta-
mount to election, and our assembly men
are to be Abner Lewis
a good sensible farmer, and Dr Ellsworth
of Stockton, a thick set smiling looking
man that you may recollect, a better
looking man but not half the member
that Benedict
Everyone is disappointed. Ellery was
indiscreet enough to nominate the Dr, at
home, & this arrogance, with his former
immoral conduct, it is said defeated the
Dr & he is sadly mortified. Our Young
dislikes Ellsworth & is vexed. Benedict & his
friends say that the whole ticket will suffer.

dissatisfied, but after all, I am of opinion
we shall lose but little.
Resolutions were passed in conventions
intended to repel the charges of Croswell & Co
about Land office frauds, but a proposition
to appoint an investigating Com. was voted down
on the ground that no impression was made[ . ]
