Auburn June 8th.1839.
My dear Jennings,
Your letter of the 3d. instant was received last evening. I am rejoiced
to hear that Marcia
Birth: 1794-07-23 Death: 1839-10-28
is in New going to Orange. She is of course to make a visit here
on her way.
I have been ploughing slowly through the apparently endless business with
Cook

and Maxwell
Unknown
. It has been tedious in the extreme and when my official
duties and the time occupied by calls are considered it must be obvious that
I have very little time for labor. Under these circumstances I have called
my Secretary
Birth: 1820-03-09 Death: 1893-07-07
up here and I have now a prospect of going through
next week with this and the Underwood
Birth: 1797-03-07 Death: 1864-01-05
and Jones

business. Now it
will remain to see what can be done as to assigning the Chautauqua
mortgages with William Duer
Birth: 1805-05-25 Death: 1879-08-25
. How soon I can reach you I cannot
yet say. I am making an excellent wise and safe arrangement
with Cook and Maxwell. Your receipts in Chautaqua relieve me of all
fear of the ^un^ successful result of that great enterprise.
Yours affectionately,
William H. Seward.
Benj. J. Seward Esq.
