My Dr William Henry
of the amiable dispositions and and integrity
of purpose of our old friend H W Thompson
you have a perfect recollection – His oldest
son James
and family has obtained an education and
is now a practitioner of Medicine but owing
to delicate health he is not able to pursue
that arduous business in the country and
therefore is anxious to obtain a clerkship
in some of the departments at Washington
with a small sallery untill he can con-
vince them that he is honest faithfull
and capable and thus obtain a surgical
situation in the Navy — In this matter he
seems to be strongly impressed that you
can assist him and therefore asks your
favourable consideration of the subject
H. believes by your writing to the President
Messers Southard
that a place can be obtained where he can
remain untill by his meritorious con-
duct he can get on board of an armed
vessel

He intends setting out for Washington about
the twentyeth of Feb and asks the favour of
you to send any communication you
may be pleased to make to him at Florid
I am myself favourably impressed
with the morals sprightliness integrity and
ultimate usefullness of this young Gentlemen
and of course any thing that it may be
in your power to do for him will be appreciated by me
Most truly and affectionately
Yours Saml S Seward
